Tom is a Professional Mechanical Engineer licensed in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland & Labrador, and California. He leads the buildings market sector at CBCL responsible for multidisciplinary teams and sector projects. Work within the buildings sector includes Structural, Mechanical and Electrical engineering design and services during construction. The sector also includes many specialist sub-disciplines including civil engineering, energy, audiovisual, sustainability/green buildings, commissioning, Information Communications Technology.
Since the spring of 2004, Tom has been practicing with CBCL Limited and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Prior to Halifax Tom spent eleven years working with Arup, two in London England and nine in San Francisco California.
He has been fortunate to be able to gain experience working on a variety of interesting and challenging building projects, including for example the de Young Museum in San Francisco and the Spring Garden Road Central Library in Halifax. Since the start of his career in 1992 he has had a particular interest and enthusiasm for sustainable, low-energy, high-performance buildings. His work includes multiple LEED projects, including one certified at the Platinum Level, multiple ASHRAE technology award projects and one project that had the highest energy efficiency performance in Efficiency Nova Scotia’s new construction program for 2019. He has particular interest and experience with institutional buildings including research/teaching laboratories, healthcare facilities, offices, academics, schools, libraries/museums and archive spaces.
Tom has board of director experience with the Atlantic Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council (AC-CaGBC), the Design and Construction Institute (DCI) in Nova Scotia and at CBCL. He’s also provided technical presentations for various groups including; LEED workshops, University of California Berkeley, ASHRAE, Dalhousie University, and Efficiency Nova Scotia.
